Pappelina / Sweden
Pappelina is a Swedish textile design company founded by Lina Rickardsson in 2000. After spending four years in the US, Lina returned
back to Sweden and put her life-long interest towards weaving in use; she joined a weavers’ association and learned to weave. After
a while she moved to Gothenburg and took courses in painting and weaving, weaving as her major. Soon she started with her own
products, which were very well received. It didn’t take long when she realized that she needed helping hands to be able to produce more
products, so she started to look for manufacturers from Sweden. She found a small family-owned textile mill in Dalarna, where they still
produce the products of Pappelina. In Dalarna Lina got interested in using plastic as a material for her products. The new techinque she
had discoverd needed twice as much material as the previous one, so the prices would be higher as well. The weavers were skeptical about
the success of these products but Lina believed in them; new, thich and colourful plastic rugs - which are nowadays known Pappelina’s
bestsellers. Today Pappelina produces 100 000 rugs per year and sells them in 26 countries. The essence of Pappelina remains simple,
stylish and functional, not forgetting the importance of quality.
